HSU Pioneers Education, Research, and Community Service Focused on the Longevity Society and Promoting the “Silver Economy”
✨ On May 27, 2026, Hoa Sen University (HSU) launched the Institute for Longevity Society and Lifelong Development (HSU-ILD), marking a strategic move toward generating knowledge that addresses social issues. Dr. Nguyen Tuan Duong was appointed as the Institute’s Director.

✨ Amidst Vietnam’s rapidly aging population—one of the fastest rates in the world—HSU approaches the issue with the perspective that longevity is not a burden, but an achievement of civilization. The Institute aims to shift the mindset from an “aging society” to a “longevity society,” thereby fostering a “silver economy” where the elderly are recognized as vital sources of knowledge and experience for society.
✨ Speaking at the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Huy Nhut, Rector of HSU, emphasized that a university must not only disseminate knowledge but also generate new knowledge and contribute solutions to society. Accordingly, HSU aims to establish a system of specialized, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary research institutes—such as HSU-ILD—to support academic training and produce scientific outputs with practical applications.
✨ The Institute has four primary functions:
🔹 Conducting interdisciplinary research on longevity society, lifelong learning, human development, and intergenerational connections.
🔹 Developing and organizing training and professional development programs that promote lifelong learning, in collaboration with specialized academic faculties.
🔹 Facilitating academic exchanges and connecting with experts and international organizations.
🔹 Implementing projects to improve quality of life and foster intergenerational connections.

✨ Dr. Nguyen Tuan Duong, Director of the Institute for Longevity Society and Lifelong Development, asserts: “The concept of a longevity society and lifelong development is one that defines our era and holds profound humanistic significance. Higher education cannot stop at merely awarding degrees; it must provide solutions for learning, retraining, and adaptation throughout a person’s life.”
